Assign color to table names

Hello, I was thinking at a simple feature that could be useful to some.

Why don't you add the possibility to tag tables with a colour code, so that in databases with a lot of tables you can tell at a glance those who are related to a certain feature or logic.

Kind of like the background color feature you added for sessions.

We already have a) distinct symbols for some table engines, b) colored background of tables when you have activated the option to display progress bars. If you want a color per table, you must say how and where that should be displayed.

Hi! I meant different colors for tables in the same database.

For example you could assign red to a group of tables (let's say those related to blog posts in a blog application for example) and blue to another group (let's say user data tables).

I know you could just name the tables blog_something and user_something, but adding color can make it easier to catch the areas you're working on when the database has a lot of tables!

Yes, I already understood your proposal. I just said you need to be more exact, say how and where that color should be displayed, as we cannot use it as a background because of the mentioned progress bar.

Oh I'm sorry I misunderstood your reply.

It could show for example the table name in a different font color and be assigned by selecting one or more tables from the list, right clicking them and choosing the option to pick font color.

IMHO, the left pane is already colourful enough:

Do we really want this?

Oh I guess it's because I'm not using background for my connections... however it doesn't look THAT bad :p

Anyway it was just an idea that I thought of sharing, I'm not saying it must be done or anything... just giving some inputs for discussion.

Yes of course, thanks for the idea. I already had in mind what kalvaro made visible in his wondeeful screensmileThat makes it somehow clear that you cannot expect users to understand such a myriad of different colors.

Similar features are proposed now and then. I think HeidiSQL is more an administration utility than a modelling tool so the difficult part is finding an implementation that does not get into the way of existing simplicity.

Good ideas are always welcome :)

Thanks for the feedbacksmileI still think it's a good idea even for administration since a color code could mean anything to the person who's using it!

Also it wouldn't harm those who don't want to use it because unless you manually apply colors everything looks just like before.

My two cents! Ciao~
