My dear users. Since late December I am in a bad health condition. I am taking 8 different pills a day to get the symptoms healed. But to also heal the causes, I will leave HeidiSQL how it is now. No bug fixing, no new features, just keeping an eye on the server and managing things. Probably more later, when I'm better again.

OK. Thanks for your work since 8 years!!!happyhappy

But please keep this site, so later the co-developer can continue to fix bugs and add new feathers.

Another thing, can you change the license to BSD? Maybe this can help this project to develop better?

Of course I will not shut off anything here. As said, I'll keep an eye on heidisql.com and things around it, to keep up a certain service level. Only development was so heavy in the recent months and years, I felt responsible to say a word about calming down for the next time to all users.

Well, obviously, I cannot keep my fingers from coding. See the recent commits on the download page. But don't expect too much from me for the near future.

I suppose there aren't many Delphi developers with spare time among the forum regulars. It might help to leave a note in whatever on-line community Delphi developers use to gather (assuming you haven't done it so far).

It might also help if you place a "Save HeidiSQL, developers wanted" colourful box on top of the site's home page. (Well, at least I hope it won't scare users away instead.)

On my side, I'll keep on trying to assist users here (except one whose posts look like Markov chains) as long as I have the time and energy.

Hi Ansgar:

Gute Besserung!

One thing you might consider is to inform the good folks at MariaDB of your situation.

They could really differentiate themselves from MySQL by further developing your great software and promoting it. Oracle's graphical tools for MySQL are in most regards no match to yours, in my opinion.

Hi Ansgar:

How much time, on average every day, that you spend on development of heidisql?

And how much time, for another delphi developer, he can understand everything of your source code?

Thanks in advance for your reply.

And how much time, for another delphi developer ...

If it bugs you enough, that something does not work as you want, it does not matter how much time. The chances that you will brake something else with your repair comparing to ansgar are about zilion times bigger than that of ansgar.

And then there is Delphi XE5, if you are on another version, or lazarus, or ... The time nedded exponentialy grows.

I don't know. Probably one or two hours. Sometimes I spent 4 hours and more on one particular problem which was bugging me. On some days I was just reading/replying forum posts and managing issue reports. I think this reading/replying was one of the most critical thing for my blood pressure. Developing itself is mostly fun for me.

Hi Ansgar,
thank you for that swiss knife in mysql management.
Some tools in the software market have a kind of maturity level, that makes intense further development less pressing. Heidi is definitely one of these tools.
But bringing the case to the Maria DB folks is probably a good suggestion.

Just made a donation...

Best regards
Steffen

I just registered just to express my gratitude and to wish you a soon recovery, so that you are healthy enough to do whatever you want in life.
I have since at least 3 years back have had heidisql as the only db tool while developing locally and has been such an easy one to use and the pace you have kept in improving it has just built my confidence and made me a true follower.
I really am not Delphi developer and I also have my own os projects that are chewing up a good share of my time so the only thing I can unfortunately do is chime in regarding reaching out to maria db folks.
Finally please do find joy in resting and good luck....

Would it be helpful/possible to have other forum members somehow take some of this burden from you?

I could imagine some of us could answer "how to" questions. Obviously only developer(s) could respond to bug fix and enhancement requests.

If this makes sense, perhaps it is time to establish a special category of users like "forum helpers" -- if that does not already somehow exist (I note a few posters seem to habitually help already)

Ansgar, Thank you for creating this excellent tool. I enjoy this tool very much. I am not a developer, so all I can say is .. Get a good doctor as well as second opinions from other doctors. And hope you get well soon.

Best Regards

Sad to hear you have health problems, I hope you can find the right remedy soon. It's good to have some form of physical practice for health - I know Eastern styles like qigong can work wonders for maintaining health when done regularly. We programmers especially need a dose of healthy activities to keep ourselves in good shape. Best wishes!

Hi Ansgar,

Thank you for your great tool and for all the improvements all these years.

I use only Linux and I run it with Wine.
I develop only for Linux, mobile and Web but I developed a lot for windows in the past so if you need some help I can create a windows vm, set and environment and retake delphi.

Just let me know.

Best,
Carles

Hey Ansgar,

Thank you for such a VERY GOOD tool as Heidi's is. It surpasses other commercial products without any doubt!

Just to wish you a good recovery on your health and hey, slow down indeed! Life and good health are more important than coding!

All the very best and hugs from Portugal!

Hey Ansgar,

I'm sorry to hear that. Hopefully your conditions improved in the meantime.
From time to time I visit your site - and this since MySQLFront came out. So in fact I'm here since ages.

Maybe it's a good idea stepping aside for just a while. It might help you physically - and mentally.

I always appreciated the energy & love of yours while sticking to HeidiSql.

Take your time & get well.

kr, zara
