I don't blame you for wanting to get paid for your hard work, but the donate button makes it impossible for me to use your software. I'm fairly ADD, and changing UI elements causes me to lose my attention every time it changes (same reason I have to use adblock).
There's too many good free/open source alternatives out there for me to either buy this or deal with the nagware. I don't expect you to care about your freeloading users, but at least if this project was more clearly marked as nagware, then people wouldn't be annoyed at having wasted time downloading it.
Back to mysql workbench for me. =\
Donate ad is too distracting
Sad to hear that. But feel free to use an alternative database client.
Indeed I have put so much effort into HeidiSQL over the last 10 years, so I decided to place the mentioned donate buttons in HeidiSQL itself. But most people should be able to ignore these. I think users get very much functionality and an easy to use application for these buttons.

Freeloader2: Yes, there might be other free software alternatives out there, but non is as good as HeidiSql, in my humble opinion.
If you are so distracted by the donate button - just make a small donation and get rid of it
I'm almost blind for ads and alike, so the button was merely noticeable by me, but I made a small donation just to support this superb software. Actually, it doesn't have any equal in the free world of Linux, so I'm back in Windows quite soon after each attempt to move over to Linux :)
