HELP!!! Cannot Find my Back Up File
I did a heidi backup of my files, but inadvertantly checked truncate. I cannot find where the .sql database was backup up to or how to import it. Emergency,
if you checked 'truncate', all that did was to write a "TRUNCATE" command to the resulting sql file, where it is dormant until you use that file (cf below). The content of the database where you used "Tools" / "Export database as sql" are not changed in any way by the export. Look into the appropriate table's "Data" tab to see the data there.
Then, do you know the name you used for the backup file ? then everything is for you. install it and let it find the backup file by name (ie the folder that contains it); then use "File" / "Load sql file" from heidisql's menu to load it into a heidisql Query tab, and press F9 to run it.
NB the "Export database as sql" Dialog has a small "Disk" icon in the lower right; this shows a standard system "store file" dialog as is used by all other programs on your computer to determine where to store files. This "Disk" dialog gives you explicit control over where your backup file is written.
