While trying to install the new v. 5, I kept encountering an error code 5.

Any advice?

Cannot reproduce that, on XP - can you verify your download did not break the setup file?

I'm not sure how to verify that the download did not "break the setup file".

However, I did run into the error, again.

During installation, everything stopped and an message said:

C:\Program Files\HeidiSQL\heidisql.exe

An error occurred while trying to replace the existing file:
DeletedFile failed; code 5.
Access is denied.

Sounds like the installer was started without admin privs?

I do have admin privileges.

Yes, I thought so, and also the installer does not run at all if you don't have admin privs. So, probably the error message is just misleading and the file was locked or in use.

I finally got it to work. smile

After downloading v. 5, I started up the installer, but then turned off Heidisql.

Then the installation worked!

It should be noted that the installation program does not automatically switch off Heidisql.

Hehe, that was easy. Super, I thought already there was something wrong with the installer.

The note is already there, although slightly different: "It is recommended that you close all other applications before continuing."
