"unknown database" is caused by some USE NonExistantDatabase . So I'm sure you have specified the wrong database name in your Drupal config, or you have some minor typo in that name. |

well this is what i did.. open heidi, click on create.. then i i input w/e name i want as the database name.. then in the drupal database config.. it asks me for the database name.. i input the exact name i created it under.. and the the username is root, and there is no password.. so i dont know what the typo is.. i even made the name Dave to make it easier and no typos.. and nothing.. |

Was just a guess as I don't have a better explanation. Be sure to handle the database name case sensitive. It is case insensitive in MySQL for Windows system by default, but case sensitive on Linux. |

Don't use the root user. Create a user from HeidiSQL (Tools-> User Manager) with a proper password. Then click the "Add privilege" button, select the database you created for Drupal, hit "OK" and click the checkbox on the left of the database name so the user has all the permissions: select, insert, update... |
