Show Status show only Hex Result from Database

Since a few updates of HeidiSQL, some selects deliver instead of a value only Hex values back. This happens for example on "Show Status", but also on some selects on a date field.

What is the cause of that. I use Mysql 4.1 (have to use this old version) on a Windows 2008 Server.

Does it many any difference if you enable/disable "View binary data as text"?
