No stable version since 2016-10-21

I see that there are many commits with new features or bug fixes, but the main stable version is the same since 2016-10-21 - that's more than a year. What is blocking the stable release?

The expiration of the AuthentiCode certificate ("code signing"), mainly. I have problems in finding a provider which sells me a certificate for this OpenSource project. Many certificates are quite expensive, and need some business validation, e.g. at dnb.com, where I am not listed.

Ah, and certum.eu nowadays expects me to buy some smartcard hardware along with their quite cheap certificates.
