SSH tunnel 'root'@'localhost' access denied

I have seen a lot of post around this issue, but I have had no luck.

I am getting an alarm saying that the user 'root'@'localhost' access denied

I am trying to ssh into my hosted database. When I access the local database with the user_name and passord it works great however on my ssh tunnel it does not

any help would greatly appreciated =) I've been stuck on it for a while
