Columns get node, node, node... after a while of inactivity.

Hi,

I'm working on a database at Hostgator. I perform operations normally, but when I switch to another window and wait a while, when I return to Heidi, everything is node.

I press F5 to refresh, and it gives an error, but then it continues and displays the data.

Is there a way to increase the time it takes for the data to be lost or even disable it?

That means your server disconnected you, which may be caused by a timeout or the server being just too busy.

A timeout is the more likely cause, and you can optimze this in HeidiSQL (assuming you are on MySQL or on MariaDB):

  • look up the wait_timeout setting: SELECT @@wait_timeout;
  • go to your session settings in HeidiSQL, and change "Ping every x seconds" to a value below the above wait_timeout, but not to 0.
