MacOS app bundle, first preview release

ansgar's profile image ansgar posted 3 months ago in News Permalink

I managed to create an app bundle for macOS / arm64, including code signing certificates. It's at a very early stage, and only few issues have been taken care for yet. No support for MS SQL, and no translations yet. But probably it helps the macOS fraction of users. Feel free to test and give feedback or report issues.

The tab page in the red box cannot be clicked. Besides, this UI interface doesn't look as comfortable on Windows as it does on other platforms.

When I select a piece of data and right-click the mouse, the program crashes.

Well done. Is this a Lazarus build?

Yes. And it is built from the same sources as the Linux builds.

I am also testing this, it works well so far, but the colors are off. I use the mac dark theme and I have my connection with a red background (production), but the text is a light white and hard to read. If I change the background to white, the text is still white and I see nothing. The settings were imported from my Wine instance I have been running.

I tried switching to the mac light theme, but it wasn't any better.

Am I missing something? Can a set the settings to a default?

Either way, this is awesome progress!

@McFly1111 that red color is too light. You need to set a darker (red) color in your session settings. White text is defined through the systems dark theme.

Ah, and when using a dark system theme, you should also switch to dark for the data colors, in preferences:

Same applies to the colors in the SQL tab - just use the predefined dark setting.

Both of these color schemes are not yet synced to the system theme.

Great news Ansgar! Thank you for MacOS version. I use HeidiSQL for a long time on Windows usually for MSSQL. But I on MacOS I had to use other tools for MySQL which usually is slower to start.

Quick reports:

  1. It shows total number of rows for some tables, but for the others it just shows a very small number like 3 even there are 30 rows on the screen. I expected that number would be updated if I click on 'Show all' but it didn't.
  2. It crashes clicking on a table/function/procedure first clicking on trigger.
  3. Auto update shows Windows updates, it doesn't compare with the MacOS version.

Best regards and have a great year!

Hi Ansgar,

Just wanted to say thank you for this.

I am a Mac user and I have been using HeidiSQL via Wine for the past 5 years. It always worked well for me, but having a native macOS app is a total game changer.

I know this is an early preview and bugs will show up, but I am really excited about this project and I truly hope it becomes 100 percent functional over time. I am happy to test, give feedback, and help however I can.

Great work and thanks again for supporting the Mac community. Looking forward to the next updates

O M G ! WOW!

I have been waiting a decade for a Mac version! I will definitely check it out, it's the only reason I keep windows around for, nothing is as fast as Heidi on the mac side, accept maybe Datagrip.

I wanted to make an account as well as to say thank you for the Mac support. I used HeidiSQL years ago in one of my first jobs and it was one of the most convent database tools but I'm a more native Mac user so I missed it since I left that job. I look forward to the next release with full MS SQL support. Since I know there are a lot of Mac users like myself who run MS SQL off docker containers. Thanks again for your hard work :)
