HeidiSQL on Windows no longer working

Hi, I've been using HeidiSQL for several years now, but since the last update (12.21.0.7344) it no longer runs on my machine (Win 11). I still get the connection manager window, but when I click on a connection to open it, the window and task bar icon vanish and nothing happens. Task manager still shows a HeidiSQL process in the background though, which even uses some CPU. Running the program again creates another background process.

Has anyone else observed such a behaviour or does anyone have a hint how to diagnose what's going on? Help would be greatly apprechiated.

I forgot to mention: Problem persists even after reinstall or downgrade to 12.20.

Probably an issue with the window possition, due to a no longer connected screen? You can remove probably broken settings for the main window placement:

  • exit all HeidiSQL processes
  • start regedit.exe
  • navigate to Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\HeidiSQL
  • remove all values starting with MainWin*, e.g. MainWinLeft, MainWinTop etc.
  • start HeidiSQL

Indeed, that was it. Thanks a lot, Ansgar! I had thought about window position, but what's weird is that there was no indication or preview of windows in the taskbar. Next time I know...
