Query history navigation per query tab

First of all, thank you for implementing my recent suggestion regarding the Shift modifier for “Select top x rows” so quickly. I really appreciate the prompt response and implementation!

I have another small usability suggestion:

It would be useful to navigate through previously executed queries of the current query tab, similar to browser back/forward navigation.

The existing Query history in the Query helpers contains queries from the whole session, which makes it less convenient when working with several query tabs.

For example:

Back: previous executed query in the current tab Forward: next executed query in the current tab Optional keyboard shortcuts for both actions

This would make it possible to quickly return to a previously executed query and then move forward again, without having to search through the global Query history.

Thanks again for your work on HeidiSQL!

Please note the queries in the history tree are dimmed when they were executed on a different database than the currently selected one:

Also these history queries can be filtered from the above filter box.

But yes, navigation may be a bit inconveniant here. Though I don't think many people want to navigate through executed queries like a browser does with tabs. I think this is done by individual workflows, like:

  • one query per tab only
  • and/or naming tab captions (right-click tab, rename)
  • decorating queries with a region marker (screen below)
  • etc.
