Text field is uneditable

I've just added a field in my table, Set the Type to 'Text' . When I switch to Data view the field shows up as '(Memo)' and when I add a new record I'm unable to enter text into that field.

Help!

Depending on the version you're using, you just have press enter (newer versions) or focus on the field with your mouse and then enter the text in the bottom of the screen (older versions)
