Each query tab mapped to an individual session

Hi. Great product. I am currently using SQL Server Management Studio I would like to move to HeidiSQL for its portability and the fact it is lightweight.

Two questions:

  1. In management studio I have two SQL tabs open - one tab mapped to say my test server/database and the other to my production server/database. I then run SQL against each tab for testing/reconciliation between test/prod (or between any two databases). Is it possible to do this in HeidiSQL without having to select the database on the left tree first?

  2. Also - on the query tab is their a way to show the server/database that the query will run against in the status bar (similar to management studio)? I would use it to confirm that my query is running against the correct database. Currently with HeidiSQL I will need to look at the tree on the left and make sure the lettering is black (and not grey).

Of course this depends if the above suggestions agree with the design philosophy of the product plus others may find this useful. As a data warehouse developer I work on multiple databases at the same time i.e. hoping between database to check numbers or run queries.

Thanks Sunil

I second this. I'm also a SSMS user and accidentally ended up deleting records from the wrong database. I was switching between two different machines to compare and update records and forgot to click the server in the left pane before executing the delete.

In Management Studio, the tabs show the name of the server and database.
