Startup oddity

Hello,

I just started trying HeidiSQL for the first time a few days ago.

When I first attempted to use your tool, I thought it was crashing every time I started it. I could see it in the task bar, and Windows displayed a hint display when I placed the mouse over the task button. But, the window never painted on my display and I could not interact with the program in any useful way.

Still, the tool looked interesting enough that I tried it a few more times over the next couple of days, trying the nightly builds for both x86 and x64. Each time I got the same result.

Last night I realized that the problem was probably that the program was showing up on a different display. I have a big second display for CAD work, but most of the time it is not turned on. Not at all sure why I thought if it, but I did, and the behavior was very like what I see when I forget a CAD program window on my secondary display.

Sure enough, when I tried this morning that is what was happening.

It is quite odd that this program shows up on my second display, and not my primary display, when run for the first time. I have never seen another program do that.

And, it always starts on my secondary display. It does no good to move it to my primary display in one session. It still starts on the secondary display the next time I run it.

The behavior seems completely predictable, and while it is not a bug, I would have abandoned the program as defective had I been less interested.

Did you install the latest version (v9.4)? I'm asking because I recall there was an old bug some years ago with such an issue.

Did you install the latest version (v9.4)?

Yes. I obtained the download from the Portable button link on the Downloads page some time late last week.

I also tried heidisql32.r5139.exe and heidisql64.r5139.exe, which exhibit the same behavior.

Ok, then you are using the portable package. I can probably check if there is some wrong file in it. You could also try the v9.4 installer instead of the portable.
