trim input in connection manager

As it is highly unlikely (maybe even impossible?) to have whitespaces in hostnames and usernames maybe it is a good idea to trim them.

It is quite common to accidentally catch them with copy and paste and they are hard to see.

Alternatively use a replacement chars for displaying a space to make them visible, like the commonly used centered small dot.
