Empty directory

I try to keep my Windows Documents directory as clean as possible. I saw that HeidiSQL saves snippets in a directory in Documents, and wondered whether I can change that in the settings. I was glad to see that this is possible. Thinking that the empty directory is not needed anymore, I deleted it. But HeidiSQL creates a new empty directory on every startup. Is it possible to prevent this?

Thank you! :)

Is that with the latest HeidiSQL build? (not release, please update to the latest build, via Help > Check for updates)

Yes, I just updated and it still happens.

Just tried to reproduce, with no luck. Perhaps this depends on the Windows version, it's Win10 here, but I suppose the same for you? Please post the path of that empty folder here.

Or is it running in portable mode?

C:\Users\Lyxodius\Documents\HeidiSQL

I installed it from here: installers/HeidiSQL_11.0.0.5919_Setup.exe

And I changed the snippets directory to be in: C:\Users\Lyxodius\AppData\Roaming\HeidiSQL\Snippets

Here's a short video showing what happens. And yes, I use Windows 10.

Your video just shows the generation of the "HeidiSQL" folder, not the "Snippets" subfolder.

That HeidiSQL folder is used by some other things, e.g. the automatic tab store/restore feature, and the log-to-file feature. These can only be disabled (in Tools > Preferences), not customized.

Yes, I was talking about that directory. Would you mind telling me which features exactly I need to deactivate so that folder will not be generated anymore? The two you mentioned are already deactivated, I think. At least if the ones that I unchecked were the ones you were talking about. The directory is always empty for me, so it would be nice if it could just be gone. And sorry for bothering you with this, I feel like this is a really insignificant issue that is just very personal to me. Thank you for addressing it, though, it's much appreciated!

  • Tab store/restore feature: Preferences > Files > Reopen previously used SQL files...
  • Logging to file feature: Preferences > Logging > Write log to file (oh I just see this is customizable as well)

That folder may still be created, but I don't recall why ...
