heidisql asks me i want to save the query tab contents, when i say "no", they are still here when i start it the next time, that behavior seems to be inconsistent to me?

is it a feature or a bug? ;-)

Go to Tools > Preferences > Files, and uncheck the second checkbox if you don't want tabs to be auto-restored:

Alternatively, leave that option activated, but close unwanted tabs manually, by click on the tab "x". This way, a tab won't be restored. Only those are restored which were not closed at the end of a session.
