how to "upgrade" your portable heidisql version

This should be an easy question, I guess. Can you please give some guidelines on this?

I was using a portable version in this folder: C:\Dropbox\heidisql.com\HeidiSQL_11.2_32_Portable

Now I unzipped the new release to this folder: C:\Dropbox\heidisql.com\HeidiSQL_12.2_64_Portable

What files/subfolders should I copy from the old folder, so everything I had done is still there, available? Perhaps I should also "export something" from the old version and "import" from the new one, before deleting the old folder?

Thanks

Also, do you suggest to maintain the same folder name for some reason? i.e., unzip content here (no version in folder name) and keep it for future releases:

C:\Dropbox\heidisql.com\HeidiSQL_Portable

See also the portable help section.

One way is to have a folder where you just overwrite existing files with those from the new portable zip file. That may leave some orphaned libraries which are no longer used in some future release, but that should not harm the functionality.

Another, more clean way is to unzip a new version into an empty folder, and copy the portable_settings.txt file into it, from your previously used folder.

Thanks for your prompt reply. Copying the portable_settings.txt file seems easier, but I am curious anyway: is that 100% equivalent to "export settings" (in the old version) to a .txt file somewhere, and then importing it from the new version?

That's what I used to do between home and work computers (when still using the installable version).

BTW I see two folders ("Backups" and "Snippets") in my old portable folder, which are not present in the brand new unzipped version. They are not mentioned in the portable help section. Should I copy them too? ("Snippets" is empty but "Backups" is not)

Thanks a lot in advance

Yes, exporting + importing settings should do exactly the same as copying portable_settings.txt. Though I would recommend to just copy the file, as the export process may leave away certain values in the future.

Sorry I forgot to mention these folders. These are auto-generated anyway, but of course if you want to keep snippet files and auto-saved tab files, you need to copy these both folders too.
