how to export HeidiSQL Settings from backup Files only

I moved my Laptop to Windows 10, and forgot to export the HeidiSQL Settings before doing so.

However, the complete drive has been backup up using DriveImage XML, so all (!!) system files are still there

Is there a way to retrieve the HSQL Settings form this backed up machine ? I found a topic for a live machine, but have no possibility for now to restore the complete machine to a VM :(

Unless you weren't using HeidiSQL in portable mode (which requires a "portable_settings.txt" in the HeidiSQL folder), you need to access the Windows registry of your backup. If you can access the ntuser.dat from your profile folder, you should be able to read the relevant key with some Registry reader.

The relevant key is HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\HeidiSQL You can export that as a .reg file, then import this file using regedit.exe on your new Windows installation.

Thx :) I was not sure if that would suffice, but yes I have access to the registry files.

Will try the coming days.

Morning Ansgar,

after some tries and odd results (forgot that ntuser.dat that is important is NOT the one in the Windows Folder :( and the plink call within HeidiSQL kept beothering me that it was terminated with an error, now out of the blue all is fine :) Thankx for the support !!

Glad to hear that!

Just out of curiosity: which registry reader did you use?

Hey Ansgar,

the happiness was somewhat premature, one of the connections works, the other one spits out an error (Plink command line terminated, as e.g. on forum.php?t=6561 (see second attachment)

Dont understand, and trying to figure out what to do by using the cmd, but so far not clear :(

I used the viewer of the image (attached), which does a fine, and simple job :)

edit ... Have it working, had ssh Key and DB Logins mixed
